Last Sunday’s service led by Rev. Rob Cotton was based on the Beatitudes (Matthew 5) and 1 Corinthians 1 – the message of the cross. We began with a hymn All creatures of our God and King followed by prayers of praise and contrition and we sang the Lord’s Prayer.
Rob urged us never to miss a God given opportunity; Jesus takes hold of lives and makes them work in non-worldly ways. The Beatitudes are not just an urge to try harder but an announcement of a new way things will happen through Jesus. All standards and controls will be different. Instead of seeking wealth, comfort and power we shall pursue God’s covenant praying that His will be done on earth. We are called to believe and trust that this is the right way to achieve life in all its fullness. Rob prayed that we may know God’s counsel so we can enjoy life. We sang Rejoice and be glad.
As he prayed for guidance in caring for the helpless and needy Rob repeated “You, Lord, are our strength and vision” and we responded “Lead us in following you.”
