On a very cold Sunday morning we gathered for worship led by Robert Williams who began with
prayers of homage to our Lord and we repeated the Lord’s Prayer. We sang Charles Wesley’s
hymn: Glory to God on high. Keith and Jill read to us from Acts 16, Paul’s travels to Troas and
Philippi. In prayer Robert asked for help in serving others as Jesus did, for the needs of individuals
known to us and for guidance for world leaders.
Robert picked up the Methodist Advent theme of Gifted, God’s greatest gift being himself in the
person of Jesus. Gifts feature in the Christmas story but most important was the gift of themselves.
Jesus calls us for a purpose often without our knowing where it will lead us. He needed the support
of his disciples and he needs us today to help others in their daily lives. The Holy Spirit moves us
to respond in faith and God assures us with his presence. Like Paul we are led by God into
situations; our vision and understanding grow with experience. We are grateful for the gifts of life,
strength, perseverance and each other. We must focus on God. Robert prayed for help and
guidance. Our service concluded with a hymn: Songs of praise the angels sang, and we shared the
Grace.
