Rev. Rob Cotton began our Covenant Service last Sunday by calling for the presence of the Holy Spirit. Our musicians, Neil and Jill Barnett, read to us from Jeremiah 31, God’s covenant with his people, and John 1, Jesus makes God known to us. We sang the Lord’s Prayer.
Jeremiah urges us to sing with joy yet he was writing from prison at a very low time in Jewish history. His cry for help is a message of hope and encouragement based on trust in God. After all the family festivities of Christmas we can look forward to a new year with hope from the security of our spiritual home, our church. Only when we meet God in heaven shall we be totally secure and complete. For now home is where the heart is. We can nurture our desire to be at home through our faith in God.
Rob gave thanks for our church and prayed for its people. We repeated the Covenant Service declaration and Rob served Holy Communion. Our worship concluded with a joyful rendition of O happy day and Rob gave his blessing.
