Ashley Methodists met midweek for a simple but delightful carol service led by Rev. Rob Cotton in
the home of Ron & Cynthia Lucas who are not able to get to church at present.
Last Sunday we lit the 4th Advent candle representing the love of Jesus. Rev. Roger Baker gave
thanks in prayer for that love and asked forgiveness for our mistakes. Keith, Bunty and Roy read
from Isaiah 7, Luke 1 & Matthew 1, all telling of God’s incredible Christmas promise – Emmanuel
(God is with us).
When we are afraid, facing bullying, insecurity, bad news, the fragility of human life, when we are
lonely, confronted with images of happy families, Jesus is there as a caring companion if we claim
his promise. In times of suffering he is closer than ever. Having experienced it himself he
understands. When we know that he loves us we are in a secure place, at home. His promise gives
us strength, hope and security. If you have these feelings claim God’s promise.
After a reflection on Emmanuel Roger prayed that this message would reach everyone at Christmas.
