“Waken me, Lord” was Rev Paul Clapham’s call to worship last Sunday. With hymns accompanied
by Neil & Jill Barnett and Bible readings from 1 Colossians (the person and work of Christ), Luke
10 and John 12, he helped us to consider our relationship with God. Jesus entered an unprepared
world, struggled against injustice. His death and resurrection reconcile all creation.

Richard and Guy read the story of Martha and Mary, the doer and the worshipper.
Both have value. We should not let the stuff of life eclipse our spiritual responsibilities. Mary’s
personal act of homage became public and was criticised for its cost. Our relationships with Jesus
and each other are what really matter. After prayers for peace and our personal concerns Paul
prayed that we may learn to know Jesus better and concluded with a blessing.
