There was an excited buzz as Junior Church prepared for our nativity Service last Sunday.
Guy Chatburn lit the third candle of our Advent wreath representing joy, sharing with others and giving thanks to God for all we have. Rev. Rob Cotton prayed that all may absorb the message of Christ’s birth. We sang O come all ye faithful before Penelope welcomed us to witness the story of the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Lucy, Poppy, Olivia, Max and Henry described how Mary and Joseph learned of the significance of Mary’s baby and the census obliging them to travel a great distance near her time. Henry, Sebby and George portrayed the search for accommodation and the children sang Away in a manger. Olivia, Harriet and Lucy enacted the appearance of angels to shepherds who visited the stable. Penelope told of the star that led the wise men (Ellie and Lucy) to the makeshift crib and the children sang Twinkle twinkle great big star. Henry called us to prayer as the children each gave thanks for Jesus asking that they might copy the characters in the story.
Rev. Rob Cotton praised the children’s portrayal of “the greatest story” and read his version from the chocolate Bible challenging us all to spot allusions to brands of chocolate. He repeated the children’s prayer to make room for Jesus this Christmas and we shared the Grace before Henry played Christmas songs on guitar.
