Last Sunday Robin Perry began our worship with Psalm 136, thanking God for all he provides. We responded with “His love endures forever.” A lusty rendition of Great is thy faithfulness, accompanied by Neil & Jill Barnett, was followed with prayers of thanks, penitence, a request for help to be good stewards and the Lord’s Prayer.

Robin based his service on a song by Robin Mark – These are the days of Elijah. Jill Harrison read to us from Ezekiel 37, the valley of the dry bones, and James 5, a prayer of faith.

Having proved the reality and power of God against the sham Baal, Elijah was scared of the repercussions. Are we bold enough to challenge today’s worship of other gods? As with Elijah God will support and protect us. Robin Mark’s song refers to several Biblical events redolent of today which illustrate this. We are living in a post Christian age yet church attendance is actually increasing gradually especially among young people. There is an openness to the existence of something spiritual. Our task is to witness to the grace of God through Jesus.

With Robin we prayed for our world of conflict, for our nation and for those close to us who are in distress. We sang Go forth and tell! O church of God awake! and closed with the Grace.
