Our Songs of Praise comprised hymns chosen by members of the congregation, accompanied by
Rod Smith. Roy introduced his choice, a harvest hymn: Now thank we all our God. It reminded
him of the war years and local farmers who kept us fed. Rod read prayers by Nick Fawcett for a
closer relationship with God, anticipating the perfect life hereafter. Further hymns included I am so
glad, a reminder of childhood, and God’s spirit is in my heart, a help through difficult times.
Rod read to us from 1 Kings 19, God calls on Elijah to do his work. A family favourite, Great is thy
faithfulness was followed by In Christ alone, chosen for its hope and certainty. Hillary read from
Matthew 14, Jesus walks on water. Wise men seeking Jesus and When we walk with the Lord were
chosen for their message – we are never alone.
Jill led our prayers of intercession and Ron chose a hymn by Bernadette Farrell – Longing for light.
Finally we sang Crown him with many crowns in memory of Gerry Maxwell before we shared the
Grace together.
