To mark Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem a palm leaf was placed on our Lenten cross. Sue Fox welcomed Rev. Graham Horsley to lead our worship. In prayer he gave thanks for Palm Sunday praising God for all his blessings, offering our penitence for shortcomings and seeking comfort for those suffering illness or hardship. Norma Buckley read to us Luke’s account, chapter 19, of Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem and the attitude of various onlookers.

Graham commented that Palm Sunday seems an anomaly given the events of the following week. It fulfilled the Old Testament prophecies. Surely the religious experts would find that exciting? Yet they were angry and fearful. Both they and the adoring crowd got it wrong. The disciples were confused and on Good Friday very quiet, afraid to go against the crowd. Yet God gave them more chances to get it right, just as he does for us. More than anything Palm Sunday was for Jesus. It gave him comfort, assurance and strength to endure what was to follow. Graham prayed for us to be kind and encouraging to those facing hard times.

On Good Friday we meet for a service of reflection at noon. We shall celebrate Easter Sunday with Holy Communion at 10.30am. Both services will be led by Rev. Helen Kirk. All are welcome.
