On a beautiful sunny morning Robin Perry led us in worship of our Creator beginning with words from Psalm 145: I will praise you every day. During our service scenes of God’s creation were shown on our TV screens. In prayer he led our thoughts of worship, penitence and gratitude for forgiveness before we shared in the Lord’s Prayer.
Robin’s theme was a firm foundation. Guy Chatburn read to us from Matthew 7, building one’s house on rock rather than sand, and from Mark 4, the parable of the sower where Jesus showed graphically what happens when our faith in his way does not have a firm base. That foundation is strengthened through studying God’s word, through heeding the guidance of the Holy Spirit and making Jesus the cornerstone of our lives. Robin compared this to growing a tap root like a dandelion which will withstand all manner of attack. We are free to choose whether to follow this way or not.
We prayed for peace in the strife ridden parts of our world, for the leaders of our nation and for matters on our individual minds. Today’s theme was endorsed by the song Cornerstone and Charles Wesley’s great hymn, Give me the faith which can remove and sink the mountain to a plain.
