Last Sunday the District Chair, Rev. Helen Kirk, based her service on three short reflections. In
Isaiah 43 we learn that God knows us by name, as his own, before asking anything of us.
Remembering his love for us should be our starting point as a church.
2 Kings 4 tells of a widow destitute but for a jar of olive oil. The prophet Elisha tells her to gather
as many jars as she can & to start pouring the oil into them. This fills sufficient for her to sell and
provide for her family’s future. God uses what we have however little. We should not
underestimate what we have to offer, nor look back only to what we once had.
In John 12 v 24 Jesus tells how a seed has to die before it can grow. We have to take risks, letting
go of the past, to enable us to accomplish what God wants us to achieve.
