Rev. Roger Baker opened our service with words from the Psalms: I will sing of your strength and
love, my refuge. He spoke to the children about starting a new school year thanking God for
opportunities and help to learn. The children then left to make paper flowers in preparation for our
Harvest Festival, 27th September.
Roger resumed his series on Paul’s letter to the Philippians. This week he looked at chapter 3. He
dramatised a person who desired a beautiful pearl so much that he sold all he had to get it. Paul
sees Christ in the same way – worth more than all on earth we can possess. Religious rituals mean
nothing compared with a close relationship with Jesus. Paul describes growth in faith as a race
urging us not to look back but press forward focussing on Christ, our healer, redeemer and guide.
This requires effort, determination and training through reading and prayer. As citizens of Heaven
we must apply the rules of Christ to shine in this world. We sang All for Jesus and repeated the
chorus at intervals in prayer for guidance in following Paul’s counsel
