Last Sunday we welcomed Michael Shingler to lead our worship.  Neil and Jill Barnett provided accompaniment to our singing and also read to us from Genesis 9 – God’s promise never to flood the earth again, symbolised in a rainbow, and from John 14 – Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to comfort his disciples.

Mike began his address by asking how good we are at keeping promises?  Marriage involves a promise to remain faithful.  In the Old Testament there are several promises from God e.g. to Noah, Abraham, David and Isaiah.  In John 14 Jesus promises a home in heaven for his followers and a counsellor to guide us through life.  Earlier this year our minister promised & achieved a large gathering for his Alpha course and many were brought to Jesus as a result.  God promises to be alongside us in every moment and all situations.  He is with the sufferers and the rescuers in Venezuela.  All he asks of us is to believe in him and to follow his way.

After a prayer of thanks for God’s power and support we sang O Jesus I have promised to serve Thee to the end and Mike asked for God’s blessing.
