Last Sunday Rev. Roger Baker opened our worship with words from Psalm 113: Ye servants of the Lord praise his name. Paul’s letter to the Philippians is full of uplifting encouragement. Richard Lucas read to us the opening verses from which Roger took his theme.
Paul describes the characteristics that define a gospel shaped church. He speaks of a joyful and grateful partnership with members of the church at Philippi just as we share fellowship with other churches today. We come not as spectators but as colleagues in working for God. Paul prays that churches should have confidence in God’s faithfulness in continuing his work to completion through the return of Jesus Christ. God has ongoing work for everyone. As we keep on learning our church will grow in wisdom, discerning love and righteousness nurtured by God. Relationships beyond our walls will be shaped by love and righteousness as we seek that kind of growth.
After prayers for our strife ridden world and our friends in need Roger served Holy Communion assisted by Jill Harrison.
