Last Sunday our preacher, Mike Shingler, continued his Easter Sunday theme by looking at Peter’s part in the events following the Resurrection of Jesus. Hillary read to us from Matthew 4, Jesus calls fishermen Andrew and Peter to follow him. Norma read from John 21, Jesus commissions Peter to look after his people. Mike prayed for peace in the world, our country and our families.

Mike described Peter as rough, hardworking, impetuous and, after Jesus’ arrest, frightened. Mary Magdelene was the first to report meeting Jesus outside his empty tomb. She told Peter who rushed to see for himself. Later he recognised Jesus standing on the shore telling the fishermen where to cast their nets. Peter was filled with remorse after denying acquaintance with Jesus. Over breakfast Jesus showed he had forgiven his betrayal and instructed him to care for his sheep and lambs. We too have been forgiven our sins and entrusted with the same task – to tell what the world needs to hear – the full meaning of the Resurrection. Mike concluded our worship with a prayer for empowerment to serve our Lord in this way.
