Last Sunday morning Rev. Rob Cotton’s theme was: Are we Good Friday or Easter people? Neil &
Jill Barnett read to us from 1 Peter 2, Christ’s example to sufferers, and Luke 24, Jesus meets his
followers on the road to Emmaus.
We should experience all the emotions and moods of holy week: the elation of Palm Sunday, the
denial and betrayal of Maundy Thursday, the grief of Good Friday and the joy of Easter Sunday.
The travellers to Emmaus were in Good Friday mode, bereft and confused. Similarly the disciples
but Thomas’s doubts led to faith. Sometimes we get stuck at Good Friday. We know Christ died
for us but it is hard to make that a reality in our lives. We must move on through the limbo of
Saturday to knowing the power of the resurrection. We may not understand it all but we can be
surprised by God. He is risen indeed – hallelujah!
In the afternoon we hosted a circuit service to dedicate our Easter offerings. After readings from
Luke 4 (Jesus came with good news for captives) & Jeremiah we heard about people trapped by
events of their own making or by others. Rev. Rob led prayers for release from captivity and we
shared The Grace.
