Our preacher last Sunday, Rev. Roger Baker, travelling from Shrewsbury, braved snow & ice to lead our Covenant Service – offering ourselves to the service of God. Rosalind gave him a warm welcome. Our organists were Neil & Jill Barnett. Jill read to us from Isaiah 60 foretelling the coming of the light of the world; Neil read from Matthew 2 – the visit of the wise men to the Christ child.

Roger linked this event to the way we should practise our faith. The magi, prompted by hope for a spiritual experience, sought the baby Jesus. They worshipped him and gave him their gifts representing the riches, spiritual power and death of Christ. So we should give our love and worship, not routinely but thoughtfully and respectfully serving God in all we do. Roger urged us to follow the star of light and hope like the wise men.

After prayers of adoration, confession, petition for strength to serve and for sufferers in our world and locally we made our covenant promises and celebrated Holy Communion. Roger closed the service with a blessing and we shared a cuppa together.
