Our steward for today Keith Harrison started by thanking the congregation for making a success of our Ecumenical Harvest Supper, attended the evening before which had raised £200 to go to Christian Aid. He then went on to welcome local preacher from Market Drayton, June Aldcroft, to lead our Service this week. June began by conducting a recitation of the Psalm “O Sing to the Lord a New Song” There followed our first hymn “We Have a Gospel to Proclaim. Jill Harrison delivered the bible reading from Romans 8 verses18-39. In this passage Saint Paul talks of our sin. Prayers were offered for casualties in war ravaged areas of the world, especially the Middle East.
She went on to say we all make mistakes and produced a small cross-stitch of her own to demonstrate as an example. From a distance it looked fine but closer inspection shows the minor errors. We all make mistakes and we all fall short of the Lord’s perfection but we are not abandoned. For by living our lives within spirit of Jesus we will be saved. That is not to say we will not continue to make mistakes, we will and do. Yes we all sin and fall falling short of the glory of God. But by faith in Jesus we are saved and will get our true reward in heaven itself. Living with faith in Jesus, being guided by the Holy Spirit should be our security. Nevertheless, we will continue to fail, because we are human but we know that we will get our reward in the afterlife by faith.
